Naruto’s New Shippuden Animation Sparks Fresh Excitement Ahead Of The Franchise’s Next Chapter

Nearly a decade after Naruto: Shippuden aired its final episode, fans have finally received new animation featuring the iconic ninja. While the latest release is a promotional short rather than a continuation of the television series, it marks the first newly animated Shippuden content since the anime concluded in 2017.

For many followers of the franchise, the release carries significance beyond its brief running time. After years of uncertainty surrounding postponed anniversary celebrations and the lack of updates on future projects, the short suggests that Studio Pierrot is once again turning its attention to Naruto's original story.

Promotional Short Reunites Fan-Favourite Characters

The new animation has been produced as part of the latest collaboration between Naruto: Shippuden and PUBG Mobile.

The short reunites Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno and Kakashi Hatake as they face Sasuke Uchiha, recreating the familiar atmosphere of the Shippuden era while showcasing noticeably updated animation techniques. The themed collaboration is available within PUBG Mobile until 7 September.

Although the animation was designed to promote the in-game event rather than serve as a new episode or television special, many fans view it as an important milestone. Since the end of Shippuden, Studio Pierrot has largely concentrated on Boruto, leaving the original generation of characters absent from newly animated stories.

Years Of Waiting Made Every New Project More Meaningful

Excitement surrounding the new release has been amplified by the lengthy gap since Naruto last received original animation.

In 2023, Studio Pierrot announced four special episodes to celebrate the anime's 20th anniversary. The announcement generated widespread anticipation, with fans expecting to revisit the original cast through brand-new stories.

However, just before the planned premiere, the studio confirmed that the episodes had been postponed indefinitely, explaining that additional production time was needed to improve the overall quality.

While many supporters appreciated the decision to prioritise quality, the absence of further updates gradually led to uncertainty over whether the anniversary episodes would ever see the light of day.
