Popular Indian actor R Madhavan has been named as one of the recipients of the Padma Shri this year, marking a significant milestone in his decades-long journey across Indian cinema. The Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honour, recognises distinguished service in fields including arts, social work and science. Madhavan is among 75 individuals selected for the Padma Awards this year, reflecting the breadth of contributions being celebrated. "I consider this not just an award, but a responsibility. I promise to carry this honour with dignity, sincerity, and a deep sense of commitment to the values it represents. Over the years, he has been part of several landmark films, including Rang De Basanti, 3 Idiots and the Tanu Weds Manu franchise. Most recently, Madhavan appeared in Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, which has emerged as the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. He is set to reprise his role as an Indian spymaster in Dhurandhar 2, scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.
