The Strongest Dragon Ball Villains Goku Defeated Alone, Ranked

That means the victories Goku has in Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z , Dragon Ball GT, and Dragon Ball Super where he and he alone defeats an opponent nobody else can are truly special. While he may still occasionally be lent energy or get a last-minute power-up by an ally, the strongest opponents Goku has defeated one-on-one aren’t necessarily the strongest villains in Dragon Ball overall.

Kid Buu

Kid Buu is arguably the most purely destructive villain Goku ever defeated in Dragon Ball Z. Unlike many of the DBZ’s other major antagonists, Kid Buu has no interest in ruling the universe or proving his superiority. He exists to destroy, making him an unpredictable and terrifying opponent. His regeneration, extraordinary speed, immense strength, and seemingly endless stamina made him incredibly difficult to put down.

Goku ultimately defeated Kid Buu with the Super Spirit Bomb after an extended battle on the Sacred World of the Kais. The victory was not entirely without assistance, as Goku needed the energy of Earth's inhabitants for the final blow, which he was only able to muster after Vegeta had Dende wish for Goku’s energy to be restored with the Namekian Dragon Balls. Still, Goku was the one who ultimately defeated Kid Buu after every other hero failed and after Vegeta admitted he wasn’t strong enough, making the battle one of his most significant solo victories.

Omega Shenron

While he may or may not be canon in Dragon Ball, Omega Shenron is still easily one of the strongest opponents Goku ever faced outside the franchise’s central timeline. He represents the culmination of Dragon Ball GT's Shadow Dragon Saga, and no other GT villain came close to his power. Created from the negative energy accumulated in the Dragon Balls, Omega Shenron possessed the combined powers of the seven Shadow Dragons, giving him a vast range of abilities and overwhelming strength.

Goku's fight against Omega Shenron was especially difficult because the villain was initially far beyond anything Super Saiyan 4 Goku could handle. Even with Vegeta reaching SSJ4, the pair struggled to overcome him. Goku eventually defeated Omega Shenron with the Universal Spirit Bomb, which required energy from across the universe. Although the attack was powered by others, Goku was the only fighter capable of performing the move, and so was solely responsible for Omega Shenron’s defeat.

Golden Frieza

Fans were delighted when iconic Dragon Ball Z villain Frieza returned to Dragon Ball Super, especially when he revealed his Golden Frieza form and the true extent of his power was known. After training for the first time in his life, Frieza unlocked his Golden form and became powerful enough to overwhelm even Super Saiyan Blue Goku. His raw strength was extraordinary, and his improved abilities made him one of the most dangerous opponents Goku had faced since the end of Dragon Ball Z.

Goku eventually managed to gain the upper hand by exploiting Golden Frieza's greatest weakness: his inability to efficiently control the form. Frieza's stamina rapidly deteriorated, allowing Goku to dominate their battle. However, shortly after Goku declared victory, Frieza had Sorbet shoot Goku, then quickly destroyed Earth by shooting an energy beam straight into the ground while Vegeta monologued instead of stepping in to deliver a killing blow. Thankfully, Whis was there to reverse time with his Temporal Do-Over ability, after which Goku then finished Frieza off with a Kamehameha.
