The anime adaptation of Re:Zero boasts a captivating production and release history. Initially announced in 2015, the first season hit screens in 2016, followed by the 2018 OVA titled Memory Snow and another in 2019 titled The Frozen Bond. The long-awaited second season was announced in 2019, originally slated for April the following year. To build anticipation, a Director's Cut of the first season aired in 2020. However, in March 2020, the official website announced a delay until July, citing the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on production.

The second season aired in two parts, from July to September 2020 and January to March 2021, maintaining the tradition of substantial gaps between seasons for Re:Zero fans.

As for Re:Zero Season 3, the announcement came during Kadokawa's stage event at the 2023 AnimeJapan consumer show. While lacking comprehensive details on staff, plot, or voice actors, it included a teaser trailer and a key visual featuring Subaru Natsuki and Emilia . Additional information surfaced in July 2023 on the Re:Zero website, offering a promotional image and a summary hinting at the upcoming events:

"A year has passed since the battle against the Great Rabbit, as well as repelling the fierce assault of Elsa 's group that saw the liberation of the Sanctuary that Beatrice was contracted to. Emilia's Camp has been working together for the King's Selection. But while Natsuki Subaru has spent his days having fun, a single letter from a messenger signals the end of the peace."
