LPG Cylinder Delivery Back on Track as Bharat Gas Resumes This Key Facility

Amid rising concerns over fuel supply and inflation, there is some relief for domestic consumers. Bharat Gas has restarted home delivery of LPG cylinders in several regions after the service was suspended in many places due to supply shortages triggered by the ongoing global crisis.

The disruption had affected both urban and rural consumers, with villages facing the biggest challenges in accessing cooking gas. Earlier, HP Gas had also resumed doorstep delivery services for a brief period before operations were halted again due to increasing demand and limited supply.

Why LPG Home Delivery Was Stopped

The sudden rise in international tensions and fears of a fuel shortage led many households to panic-buy LPG cylinders. This created an unexpected spike in demand, forcing dealers in several regions to suspend home delivery services temporarily.

Now, with stricter monitoring and revised booking regulations in place, deliveries have gradually resumed in selected areas. The move is expected to bring relief to families struggling to arrange LPG cylinders on their own.

New LPG Booking Rules Introduced

To prevent black marketing and misuse of domestic cylinders, the government has tightened the LPG booking process. Customers can no longer receive a cylinder without OTP verification.

Under the revised system, consumers must book their LPG cylinder using their registered mobile number. Once the booking is confirmed, an OTP is sent to the customer’s phone. This OTP must be shown either to the dealer or the delivery agent before the cylinder is handed over.

Consumers have also been advised to keep their gas passbook ready during delivery verification.

Waiting Period for New Cylinder Booking

The updated rules also include limits on how frequently customers can book a new cylinder.

Rural consumers can place a fresh booking only after 45 days.
Urban consumers can book another cylinder after 25 days.

Officials believe these restrictions will help control unnecessary stockpiling and ensure fair distribution.

LPG Prices Remain Unchanged for Now

Despite the supply pressure, domestic LPG cylinder prices have remained stable over the past few weeks. The last major revision saw domestic cylinder prices rise by Rs 60. Commercial LPG cylinders witnessed a much steeper hike of more than Rs 900, pushing prices beyond Rs 3,000 in some areas.

India’s heavy dependence on imported LPG has added to the pressure. Reports suggest that disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz have impacted global LPG movement, creating fresh concerns about supply availability in the country.

To manage the situation, the central government has reportedly instructed authorities to boost domestic LPG production and strengthen supply chains.

Political Debate Over Fuel Prices Intensifies

Fuel prices continue to remain a major political issue across the country. Recently, Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the central government over rising petrol and diesel prices. Through a post on X, he questioned why fuel prices remain high despite softer international crude oil rates.

The remarks come at a time when inflation, rising household expenses, and slowing consumer spending are dominating national discussions.
