CBSE re-evaluation portal goes live after delay, new technical glitches spark widespread student outrage
New Delhi: Missing its original deadline of Monday, June 1, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) re-evaluation portal was finally opened during the early morning hours on Tuesday, June 2.
In a post on X, the CBSE confirmed that the portal was live and shared a video outlining the step-by-step procedure on how to apply for verification and re-evaluation.
However, several users replied to the board's post, stating that they were unable to login and pointed to multiple technical glitches while accessing the platform. On Monday afternoon, the board had stated that the portal would go live soon, but the platform remained inactive through the day.
The delays follow severe criticism over the board’s expanded On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for evaluating the Class 12 examinations this year. The application portal was originally slated to open on May 29. The CBSE later postponed the launch to June 1 to build a transparent and glitch-free process.
When students tried to access scanned copies of their evaluated answer sheets earlier in May, they encountered broken pages, faulty payment gateways, and blurred or incomplete digital scripts.
To salvage the system, the Ministry of Education brought in top engineering experts from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras to audit vulnerabilities and fortify the infrastructure. Under the current rules, only students who have already applied for and received their scanned digital answer books can apply for re-evaluation. The CBSE has stated that when applying for re-evaluation, the student must specify exact question numbers and explain online how an answer matches the official marking scheme but was incorrectly evaluated.
Over 4 lakh students have applied to check their answer sheets this year following a massive volume of complaints from students who received lower-than-expected scores in Physics and Mathematics. Following intervention by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the CBSE has promised that all re-evaluation fees will be fully refunded if a student’s marks increase after the review.
The board has provided a helpline number, 1800-11-8004, and an email, resultcbse2026@cbseshiksha.in, for students facing problems.
Nationwide protests demand education minister's resignation
The technical failures and evaluation discrepancies have triggered widespread outrage among student communities, parents, and education activists across the country. Aggrieved students from various states have expressed deep distress over the alleged mismanagement of the evaluation process, which they claim has jeopardized their higher education prospects. Protests and online campaigns have intensified, with severe criticism directed at the political leadership.
This growing anger is further fueled by lingering resentment over the massive NEET paper leak scandal, which had already severely damaged public trust in the national examination framework. Critics point out that the current crisis is part of a systemic failure in the country's educational administration, noting that at least three major national or board level examination papers have been leaked within the past five years.
Demands for the immediate resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan have grown louder from all parts of the country, as student organizations and opposition leaders hold the ministry entirely accountable for the repeated collapses in the examination, evaluation, and re-evaluation infrastructure.
