Class-12 topper, preparing for NEET, dies by suicide in Dehradun

A 23-year-old woman, Riya Kumari Thapa, allegedly died by suicide at her home in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.

The family found her hanging in her room when her mother went to call her for lunch and found the door locked.

After alerting her father, the family forced the door open and found Thapa hanging inside.

A suicide note was recovered from the scene, which read, "I love you, Mummy, Papa. No one is at fault."

Thapa had topped her school

Thapa, the daughter of a 1999 Kargil War veteran, had topped her school with 97% in Class 12.

She was preparing for the re-examination of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) on June 21 after failing to clear it in her first attempt.

Senior police officer Ankit Kandari said Thapa used to study at night and wake up late.

'No one was to be blamed for her death'

"In the note, the woman expressed affection for her father and said no one was to be blamed for her death, attributing the decision to her own perceived incompetence," the police officer told reporters.

He added the drastic action appears to have been prompted by frustration over a lack of success in her studies.

'I'm going far away': Another suicide a day ago

Just a day ago, a 22-year-old student preparing for NEET was found dead in Sikar, Rajasthan.

The student, who hailed from Jhunjhunu, was scheduled to take the NEET retest on June 21, the third attempt for him.

A suicide note was recovered from the spot, which allegedly read, "I am going far away. I do not know where I am going. Sorry!"

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had canceled the NEET-UG on May 12 after a question paper leak.
