Farmers Return To Delhi: All You Need To Know About The July 21 Kisan Mahapanchayat

Thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana are attempting to reach Delhi on 21 July 2026, in order to attend a Kisan Mahapanchayat at Kisan Ghat . The mobilisation has emerged as one of the biggest farmer demonstrations in recent months and thus, authorities have deployed heavy security and issued traffic advisories across Central Delhi in anticipation of large crowds.

Why are Farmers Marching to Delhi?

The protest has been organised by the Desh Bachao Morcha and the primary trigger is the opposition to the proposed India-US bilateral trade agreement. Farmer organisations argue that the agreement could increase imports of agricultural commodities, affect Indian farmer’s incomes, put pressure on domestic crop prices and pose a risk to India’s dairy sector through greater foreign competition.

Protest leaders say that they want the government to protect Indian agriculture before finalising any international trade pact.

Journey from Punjab and Haryana

Hundreds of vehicles and convoys carrying farmers assembled in Punjab before beginning their journey towards Delhi. The farmers are travelling in buses, tractors and other vehicles to attend the Mahapanchayat. Haryana authorities tightened security at the border points as the movement towards Delhi intensified.

The farmers are restricted from crossing the Delhi borders and authorities have sealed the borders with barricades and heavy machines like cranes. The NH-44 is still not entirely sealed but the authorities are constantly keeping a watch of the situation.
