The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of ongoing heatwave-like conditions and has issued an ‘orange alert’ in North India and has asked residents to stay cautious. Hot and dry winds, commonly known as ‘loo’, have made daytime conditions extremely difficult for the residents of the area especially during afternoon hours.

Hot Winds and Rising Power Demand

The extreme weather has also increased electricity consumption across NCR to a new extent. People are relying heavily on the usage of air conditioners and coolers to combat this heat

At the same time, air quality in parts of NCR have also worsened due to high levels of pollution and dust. The combination of heat and poor air quality is becoming a nightmare for the residents and is creating high discomfort amongst them.

The extreme heat has also triggered widespread complaints of power outages across Noida and Greater Noida. Gautam Budh Nagar recorded a temperature of 42.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, with many residents reporting repeated electricity disruptions, especially during nighttime.

Rain and Thunderstorm May Bring Relief

Despite the intense heat across North India, there has been some positive news regarding the southwest monsoon. IMD has stated that we can expect monsoons to reach Kerala earlier than usual this year.

Weather experts believe that once the monsoon progresses towards the north, it can cause relief in the various states and the temperatures can reduce a lot.

The current weather pattern highlights the growing intensity of Indian summers, with climate experts warning that heatwaves may become more frequent and severe in the coming years.

Health Advisory for Residents

Doctors have advised residents to stay cautious during these heatwave conditions. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and stay inside and avoid direct sunlight especially during the peak afternoon hours.
