Heavens will not fall if Vande Mataram is sung in madrasas: Calcutta High Court

Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has observed that "heavens will not fall" if all six stanzas of the national song Vande Mataram are sung in madrasas.

The bench made the observation during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging a government notification that made the rendition of all stanzas of Vande Mataram mandatory in madrasas.

Responding to the argument, the bench remarked that singing all six stanzas would not cause the heavens to fall.

The court questioned what would happen if someone were asked to utter a quote outside their religion, asking whether doing so would make them a person belonging to another faith.
