Heavy Rain Alert Across 15 States; IMD Issues Thunderstorm Warning Till July 11
India's monsoon has gathered fresh momentum, bringing widespread rainfall to several regions and prompting weather alerts across large parts of the country. Heavy showers, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected to continue over the next few days, with several states likely to witness intense weather conditions. Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious as rainfall activity is expected to stay active until at least 11 July.
A low-pressure system over the northwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal regions has strengthened rainfall activity across eastern and central India. As a result, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in several locations, while isolated areas could receive exceptionally intense downpours.
The districts under Red Alert include Raipur, Durg, Baloda Bazar, Rajnandgaon, Bemetara, Mahasamund, Balod, Dhamtari, Gariaband and Sarangarh-Bilaigarh. Residents have been advised to stay alert as continuous rain could lead to waterlogging, disruption of transport and localised flooding.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Madhya Maharashtra during 5 and 6 July. Odisha is likely to receive intense rainfall on 5 July, while Konkan, Goa and parts of Gujarat may continue to witness heavy showers between 5 and 7 July.
The weather is also expected to bring temporary relief from high temperatures, although humidity may remain high. The maximum temperature is forecast to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is expected to remain close to 29 degrees Celsius.
Residents have also been advised to prepare for short periods of strong winds accompanying thunderstorms, which may affect traffic movement during peak hours.
Meanwhile, lighter showers are expected in Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Madhepura, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj. Strong winds may accompany rainfall in several districts, increasing the possibility of localised disruptions.
Rainfall activity is expected to continue across different parts of Bihar until 11 July, with thunderstorms and lightning also likely in isolated areas.
Rain alerts are also in place for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura throughout much of the week. Continuous rainfall in hilly regions could increase the risk of landslides, especially in vulnerable locations.
Odisha is expected to receive another round of heavy rainfall between 8 and 11 July. Jharkhand is also likely to witness thunderstorms and lightning from 5 to 9 July, with neighbouring parts of Bihar expected to experience similar conditions on 6 July.
Weather alerts have also been issued for Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab on selected days between 5 and 10 July. Western Uttar Pradesh is likely to receive rain from 5 to 8 July, while eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to witness rainfall from 5 to 7 July, with another active spell continuing between 6 and 8 July.
Rajasthan is also expected to receive rainfall in both its western and eastern regions on multiple days through 11 July. Uttarakhand is likely to witness persistent rainfall throughout the week, raising the possibility of waterlogging and slippery road conditions in hilly areas.
With monsoon activity remaining strong across much of the country, people living in affected regions are advised to stay updated on local weather advisories, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall and take appropriate precautions against thunderstorms and strong winds. The coming days are expected to bring widespread showers across many states, reinforcing the active phase of this year's monsoon.

Areas including Gaya, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Nawada, Jehanabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Aurangabad, Banka, Jamui, Lakhisarai and Arwal are likely to receive significant rainfall.Meanwhile, lighter showers are expected in Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Begusarai, Bhagalpur, Madhepura, Katihar, Purnia, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj.
