Weather Update: IMD Warns of Heavy Rain, Lightning and Gusty Winds Across the Country This Week
The southwest monsoon is steadily moving forward, and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a fresh spell of widespread rainfall across several parts of the country in the coming days. Along with rain, many regions are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and isolated spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall through the next week.
North India Braces for Stormy Weather
Several northern states are expected to witness unstable weather conditions on June 5 and 6. Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are likely to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and both East and West Uttar Pradesh may experience thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph. Uttarakhand is also likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall, while hailstorms may occur in parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand.
On June 6, thunderstorm activity is expected to continue across the Himalayan region, with strong winds persisting over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
South India to Receive Intense Rainfall
Southern states are set for a prolonged wet spell. Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Lakshadweep are expected to witness widespread rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning.
Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to be among the hardest-hit regions, with very heavy rainfall forecast from June 5 to 7. Heavy rain is expected to continue until June 10.
Kerala and Coastal Karnataka may receive heavy rainfall throughout the period, while Telangana is likely to witness significant rainfall between June 5 and 8. Interior Karnataka is also expected to experience repeated spells of heavy rain. Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam may see heavy showers during June 9 and 10.

East and West Madhya Pradesh may witness thundersqualls on June 5, with wind speeds reaching 50-60 kmph and gusts touching 70 kmph. Chhattisgarh is also expected to see thunderstorms, lightning and squally weather through June 6.

Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Jharkhand are likely to receive scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next few days.
Bihar may experience rainfall on June 5 and again between June 7 and 10, while Odisha is expected to receive rain and thunderstorm activity from June 5 to 10.
