Delhi-NCR Braces for Thunderstorms as Strong Winds Signal Major Weather Change
Delhi Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the impact of a western disturbance over northwest India until June 13, bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and hailstorms across several regions.
According to the IMD, the most intense weather activity is expected on June 11 and 12, when thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and hail are likely in parts of Delhi-NCR region.
During the last 24 hours, isolated areas in the Himalayan region, along with regions in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu recorded rainfall between 12 cm and 20 cm. Heavy rain was also reported from South Konkan, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Telangana.
Hailstorms were reported at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and eastern Madhya Pradesh. Several parts of the country also witnessed thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
Dust storms are likely at isolated places in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, while eastern India may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the coming days.
The Meteorological Centre, Bhopal, has issued a fresh weather alert warning of widespread thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds across Madhya Pradesh over the next five days.
The bulletin highlights significant rainfall activity and strong winds already recorded in several districts, with Shahpura-Jabalpur receiving 29.3 mm of rainfall, Patan 15.8 mm and Kurai 15 mm on June 10.
Gusty winds touched 74 kmph in Jabalpur and 68 kmph in Sidhi, while hailstorms were reported in Jabalpur and Damoh.
The IMD has further warned of gusty winds ranging between 40 kmph and 60 kmph in different regions through June 14.
On June 12, hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms are likely in Datia, Bhind, Morena, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh and Niwari districts.
