India Weather Update: Rain, Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Expected Across the Country This Week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting wet conditions across the country, along with potential hailstorms in certain areas. Delhi and Northwest India:

  • Delhi: After a heavy downpour last week, Delhi has cleared up with a cool start today. Expect thunderstorms, rain, and gusty winds, with temperatures reaching up to 34°C. The air quality remains moderate with an AQI of 137.

  • Northwest and West India: Widespread rainfall is predicted across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Thunderstorms and strong winds (40-60 km/h) will accompany the showers. A thundersquall with winds up to 70 km/h is expected in Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan.

Central and Eastern India:



  • East & Central India: Light to moderate rainfall will continue over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Odisha and the Nicobar Islands may see heavy rainfall over the next few days. Central India, including Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, will also experience similar weather conditions.

  • Vidarbha & Gujarat: Hailstorms are possible in Vidarbha, East Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. Gujarat could experience heavy rainfall later in the week.

Northeast and South India:


  • Northeast India: Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to receive widespread rainfall with thunderstorms. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely to last until May 8.

  • South India: Rain and thunderstorms will affect Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala for the next week, with isolated heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Squally winds are expected in the Northwest Arabian Sea and Gujarat coasts, prompting safety measures for fishermen.
