Indian Army Safely Detonates Pakistani Missile Warhead in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer

A tense calm returned to Rajasthan’s borderlands on Sunday after the Indian Army ’s bomb disposal squad safely detonated a live Pakistani missile warhead in Badoda village, Jaisalmer district.

The warhead, discovered in a farmer’s field, was part of a missile shot down by India's air defence late Saturday night. Debris from the interception rained over the area, prompting immediate action by local authorities and military teams.

A wide perimeter was cordoned off before the disposal operation began. A deep pit was dug, and the warhead—still packed with live ammunition—was carefully neutralized. The explosion that followed was massive, shaking nearby areas and sending up thick clouds of smoke and dust, according to villagers.

Officials stated that had the warhead detonated on impact, it could have led to significant loss of life and damage. Jaisalmer SP Sudhir Chaudhary, along with Civil Defence and Army officials, supervised the high-stakes operation.

In a public advisory, SP Chaudhary urged locals not to touch any unexploded material and to report any suspicious objects to the police immediately. He also warned against sharing such images on social media to prevent panic and misinformation.

In a related incident, police in Pohda village found an old grenade and rusty cartridges, believed to be leftovers from earlier military drills.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions along the India-Pakistan border and the crucial role of swift coordination between civil and military authorities in averting disaster.
