The latest Monsoon Alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has put several states on high alert as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, hailstorms, and severe heatwave conditions are expected over the coming days. While Northeast India, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Bihar, and Jharkhand are likely to witness intense rain activity, parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana may continue to reel under scorching heat.

The weather department has also indicated that the southwest monsoon is likely to advance into parts of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands around May 16, 2026.

IMD Forecast: Heavy Rainfall Likely in Northeast India


According to the latest IMD bulletin, several northeastern states are expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next few days.


Arunachal Pradesh Weather Forecast


Arunachal Pradesh is likely to experience heavy rainfall and lightning activity until May 16. The IMD has also predicted another spell of intense rain on May 18, prompting authorities and residents to remain cautious.

Assam and Meghalaya Rain Alert


Heavy rain is expected at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya between May 15 and May 17. Another spell of strong rainfall activity is likely on May 19 and May 20.


Nagaland, Manipur and Mizoram Forecast


The weather department has warned that isolated heavy rainfall may occur across Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram from May 17 to May 20.



South India Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms and Hailstorms


Several southern states are expected to witness wet weather conditions over the next four to five days.

Kerala and Tamil Nadu Weather Update


Heavy rainfall is expected to continue at isolated places across Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until May 19. Residents in low-lying and coastal regions have been advised to stay alert due to the possibility of waterlogging and thunderstorms.


Karnataka Weather Forecast


Interior Karnataka may witness hailstorm activity on May 15. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is likely over South Interior Karnataka between May 15 and May 17.

Bihar and Jharkhand to Witness Strong Winds and Rain


Bihar Weather Alert


Bihar is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall over several districts in the coming days. Strong winds with speeds reaching up to 70 kmph are likely on May 16 and May 20.

Jharkhand Weather Forecast


The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall in Jharkhand along with gusty winds blowing at speeds of 40-50 kmph on May 15 and May 16.

Punjab and Haryana Likely to Receive Rainfall


Punjab and Haryana may witness scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms on May 15. The IMD has also issued alerts for lightning strikes and strong winds in both states.

Severe Heatwave Alert Issued for North and Central India


Even as several regions prepare for rainfall, intense heatwave conditions are expected to continue across parts of North and Central India.

Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Heat Alert


The IMD has warned that severe heat conditions are likely in parts of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between May 16 and May 20. Heatwave conditions may become particularly intense during afternoon hours.

Uttar Pradesh Weather Forecast


Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness heatwave conditions from May 14 to May 20. Severe heatwave conditions are expected in Western Uttar Pradesh between May 15 and May 17, while Eastern UP may experience intense heat on May 17 and May 20.



The weather department has also warned that isolated areas in Western UP could continue facing heatwave conditions from May 18 to May 20, while Eastern UP may remain affected on May 18 and May 19.

Rajasthan Heatwave Warning


Western Rajasthan is expected to face severe heatwave conditions from May 17 to May 19, with temperatures likely to rise by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions may also persist in Western Rajasthan on May 16 and May 20, while Eastern Rajasthan may witness similar conditions between May 17 and May 20.


Monsoon Advancement Expected Around May 16


The India Meteorological Department has stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the advancement of the southwest monsoon into parts of the South Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands around May 16, 2026.
