North India Battles Intense Heatwave as Weather Conditions Turn Extreme
North India is currently battling one of the worst heatwaves in the world with temperatures regularly crossing 45 degrees celsius in states like Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. States like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab are experiencing extremely hot and dry weather which is causing discomfort among the general public. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), severe heatwave conditions are likely to continue across large parts of northwest and central India over the next few days.
The rising temperatures have made the daily lives of many people difficult. In many cities, roads are likely to remain deserted as the public is avoiding direct sunlight. Authorities in several districts have also issued various advisories cautioning people from staying in direct sunlight for too much time and asking them to drink as much water as possible.
Parts of central and eastern Uttar Pradesh have recorded extremely high temperatures between 44 degrees celsius and 47 degrees celsius.
Meanwhile, cities in Rajasthan are also facing severe heatwave conditions and the dry winds have made the conditions even worse. Night temperatures have also remained unusually high and there is little relief even after sunset. IMD has warned that the regular hot days and warm nights can lead to people getting heat stroke if not cautious.
The weather in New Delhi and the NCR region has also become increasingly uncomfortable due to high temperatures and rising humidity levels. Maximum temperatures are reaching sky high levels of around 43 degrees celsius with dry winds causing even more discomfort
The extreme heat has also led to extremely high levels of electricity consumption across the region as people are relying more and more on air conditioners and coolers.
Despite the intense heat across North India, there has been some positive news regarding the southwest monsoon. IMD has stated that we can expect monsoons to reach Kerala earlier than usual this year.
Weather experts believe that once the monsoon progresses towards the north, it can cause relief in the various states and the temperatures can reduce a lot.
The current weather pattern highlights the growing intensity of Indian summers, with climate experts warning that heatwaves may become more frequent and severe in the coming years.
