The scheme, introduced as part of the state budget, promises annual health insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakh for each family. An initial allocation of ₹10 crore has been earmarked to begin the implementation process, signalling a significant investment in public welfare and healthcare access.

The announcement is expected to bring relief to thousands of households that often struggle with rising medical expenses and treatment costs.

Strong Focus On Affordable Healthcare

Healthcare emerged as one of the key priorities in the budget. The newly announced health insurance scheme aims to reduce the financial burden associated with serious illnesses and advanced medical procedures.

With medical expenses continuing to rise, the introduction of a large-scale family health cover programme could improve access to quality healthcare services while reducing out-of-pocket spending for families.

The budget also outlined plans for the development of the Kerala Health and Life Sciences City. Backed by an investment of ₹100 crore, the project is intended to strengthen the state's healthcare ecosystem and position it as a hub for medical treatment, research and innovation.

In another important step, caregiver certification courses will be launched through medical institutions. The initiative is expected to create a trained workforce capable of supporting the growing healthcare sector while opening up new employment opportunities.

Support Measures For Employees And Pensioners

The budget included assurances for government employees and pensioners through the continued payment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief.

Officials also announced changes to Medi-CEP, a move aimed at improving the effectiveness and accessibility of healthcare-related benefits available to eligible beneficiaries.

These measures are expected to provide additional financial stability to employees and retirees while strengthening welfare support systems.

Agriculture And Rural Economy Receive Attention

The budget introduced several measures aimed at supporting agriculture and rural livelihoods.

One of the key announcements was the increase in the support price for rubber from ₹200 to ₹250. The move is expected to benefit growers by providing better returns and enhancing income security.

Dairy development also received a significant boost, with ₹102 crore allocated to strengthen the sector. Authorities have set an ambitious target of increasing daily milk production to one crore litres within the next three years.

Plans are also in place to process surplus milk into value-added products, creating additional revenue opportunities for dairy farmers and cooperatives.
