The scheme encourages people to install rooftop solar panels to cut down electricity bills. Beneficiaries receive government subsidies for installation, making solar energy affordable. However, the scheme is designed primarily for domestic electricity connection holders.

Are Businesses Eligible Under Surya Ghar Yojana?

Many entrepreneurs and small business owners ask whether they can apply under this scheme. The answer lies in the type of electricity connection:

If the business is registered under a commercial electricity connection, it cannot claim benefits under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana regardless of turnover (₹10 lakh, ₹20 lakh or more).

If the business operates from a home with a domestic connection, the owner can apply and avail the subsidy.

This means the turnover amount has no impact on eligibility. The crucial factor is whether the connection is domestic or commercial.

Government’s Focus on Domestic Consumers

The scheme’s primary objective is to help households reduce their electricity bills and utilise unused roof space. Commercial establishments are not covered under this scheme. For businesses, separate renewable energy programmes or commercial solar solutions may apply.
