Red Fort Shut For a Month as Security Tightens Before Independence Day

The Red Fort in Delhi is closed to visitors from July 15 until August 15 2026. This is because the authorities are getting ready for India's Independence Day celebrations. The Archaeological Survey of India has ordered this closure so that everything goes smoothly on Independence Day.

According to the ASI notification, public access to the UNESCO World Heritage Site will remain suspended until the official Independence Day ceremony concludes on August 15. The restrictions will be lifted later that afternoon, allowing tourists to visit the monument once normal operations resume.

Why Has the Red Fort Been Closed?

The Red Fort is closed to the public so that all these things can be done without any problems. The authorities have also increased security around the Red Fort. There are police and security personnel around the monument to make sure everything is safe.


The Red Fort is a special place for India. It is where the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru hoisted the flag on August 15 1947. Since then every Prime Minister has done this. The Red Fort is not a popular tourist spot but it is also a symbol of India's freedom and democracy.
