IMD Weather Update: Southwest Monsoon Advances Across India, Heavy Rain Alerts Issued in Multiple States

IMD Weather Update : The Southwest Monsoon has arrived in Kerala, marking the onset of the rainy season in India. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon began on June 4, which is three days later than its usual onset of June 1. However, the IMD director stated that the delay is within the normal range and there is nothing to be concerned about. The monsoon has already covered Kerala, Lakshadweep and parts of Karnataka, and is expected to advance further in the coming days.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Southern India

The IMD has predicted isolated heavy rainfall with a range of 7-20 cm in Kerala and coastal Karnataka until June 11. Tamil Nadu can also expect to receive heavy rainfall during the same period. Continuous showers are also likely along the Konkan coast and Goa as the monsoon strengthens.

Western Ghats Set for Monsoon Tourism Boom

With the onset of the monsoon, many destinations across the Western Ghats are expected to transform into lush green landscapes. Popular tourist spots such as Munnar, Wayanad, Coorg, Agumbe, Gokarna, and Goa's countryside are likely to witness overflowing waterfalls, mist-covered hills, and cooler temperatures.

Northeast India Braces for Intense Rainfall

Northeast India is expected to experience the onset of a strong monsoon in the coming week. The northeastern states are likely to witness widespread rainfall, with heavy to very heavy showers forecast in many districts.

Heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds swept across Delhi-NCR on Thursday, providing much-needed relief from the sweltering heat that has gripped the region over the past several days. A fresh Western Disturbance has become active over the region, bringing a much-anticipated spell of cool showers to the parched plains.

Delhi- NCR Under Yellow Alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Thursday, June 4 and Friday, June 5, as dark clouds covered the skies across the national capital and adjoining areas.

Rainfall has already been recorded in several parts of Delhi, Haryana, and nearby regions, marking a sharp transition from the intense heatwave conditions experienced in recent days.

According to meteorologists, the sudden change in weather is being driven by a Western Disturbance, a low-pressure system that originates over the Mediterranean region and travels eastward while gathering moisture.

The IMD has advised residents to keep checking the weather updates for further information and to remain cautious during heavy rain and thunderstorms.
