New Delhi: Internal dissent within West Bengal’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) has intensified, with signs of rebellion now visible even in Parliament. As many as 19 Lok Sabha MPs, including former cricketer Yusuf Pathan, Sayoni Ghosh, and veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha, are reportedly raising a banner of revolt against the party leadership.

These MPs are now said to be inclined towards extending support to the NDA alliance, raising fears of an official split within the TMC.

The rebellion that had already begun in the West Bengal Assembly has now reportedly spread to the Parliament in New Delhi. Political analysts believe this is the most serious challenge faced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership since the formation of the party, and it could significantly alter the political landscape of Kolkata and New Delhi.

The list of MPs reportedly involved in the rebellion includes Shatrughan Sinha (Asansol), Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar (Barasat), Jagadish Chandra Basunia (Cooch Behar), Khalilur Rahaman (Jangipur), Yusuf Pathan (Baharampur), Abu Taher Khan (Murshidabad), Partha Bhowmik (Barrackpore), Bapi Haldar (Mathurapur), Sayoni Ghosh (Jadavpur), Mala Roy (Kolkata South), Mitali Bagh (Arambagh), Deepak Adhikari (Ghatal), Kalipada Soren (Jhargram), June Malia (Medinipur), Arup Chakraborty (Bankura), Sharmila Sarkar (Bardhaman East), Asit Kumar Mal (Bolpur), Satabdi Roy (Birbhum), and Rachna Banerjee (Hooghly).

TMC has a total of 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha, with one seat currently vacant due to the demise of Basirhat MP Haji Nurul Islam. With 19 MPs allegedly rebelling, the number of MPs supporting Mamata Banerjee in the House has reportedly reduced to just nine.

Secret meeting with BJP leaders?

Photos allegedly showing rebel MPs holding a meeting at the residence of senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi have gone viral on social media, creating a political stir. Sources claim that several leaders, including Sukhendu Sekhar Roy and Shatabdi Roy, were present at the meeting.

Not only in Delhi, but Mamata Banerjee is also facing a major setback in the West Bengal Assembly. Recently, 58 out of 80 TMC MLAs reportedly defied the party’s official decision and supported expelled MLA Ritabrata Banerjee for the Leader of Opposition post, instead of senior leader Sovandeb Chattopadhyay.

Following poor electoral performance, simultaneous rebellion in both the Assembly and Parliament is being seen as a clear indication of weakening control of Mamata Banerjee over her party.
