Age Is No Barrier to Fitness

The now-viral clip was shared on Instagram by Dr. Akash Singh, a Mumbai-based physiotherapist. Accompanying the video, Dr. Singh dismissed one of the biggest misconceptions about fitness by stating that the gym is not exclusively for young people seeking muscular physique but is a place where people from all age groups can become healthier, stronger and more independent.

Workout Focused on Strength and Independence

In the shared video, the 90-year-old performs an impressive range of exercises tailored to improve strength, stability and mobility. His workout includes assisted squats, resistance band rowing, dumbbell exercises, core-strengthening movements, and mobility drills, all designed to help maintain overall fitness.

According to Dr. Singh, strength training offers numerous benefits for senior citizens, including maintaining muscle mass, strengthening bones, improving balance, enhancing flexibility, and reducing stiffness and chronic pain. These improvements can significantly lower the risk of falls, one of the leading causes of injuries, while also allowing them to perform everyday activities with greater ease.

A Powerful Message That Resonated Online

The physiotherapist also stressed an important message that resonated widely with the audience: “You don’t stop exercising because you get old…you become weaker when you stop moving. Whether you’re 18 or 89, strength training and exercise are for everyone. Age is not a limitation. Not moving is." His statement serves as a reminder that physical activity should remain a lifelong habit, regardless of age.
