Meanwhile, regions in the northeast are bracing for heavy rainfall over the next few days.

The IMD has warned that several regions, including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Gangetic West Bengal, will experience intense heatwave conditions today. The sweltering heat is also expected to impact Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand will endure the heat from June 17 to June 18, while isolated areas in North Rajasthan, Jammu, and Himachal Pradesh will also be affected during this period. Relief from the oppressive heat is anticipated after June 18.
Southwest Monsoon Advances
The IMD's latest weather report indicates that the Southwest Monsoon is gradually spreading into new regions. Over the next few days, the monsoon is expected to advance into parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Maharashtra, Odisha, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Northwest Bay of Bengal, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Heavy Rainfall Expected in Northeast
Heavy rainfall is forecasted for the northeastern states due to a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and another over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. An east-west channel is moving towards Meghalaya from northwest Bihar at the lower tropospheric levels. As a result, Meghalaya and Assam will likely experience hefty rainfall from June 17 to June 20. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to receive heavy rainfall on June 17 and 18, while Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal will see similar weather during the same period.
Rainfall Forecast for Other Regions
The IMD predicts average rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds in Bihar, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, and Odisha over the next two days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in Mahe and Kerala on June 17 and 18. Yanam and Coastal Andhra Pradesh will experience similar weather on June 18 due to another cyclonic circulation over the northeast Arabian Sea.
