2% DA Hike Announced: Which Employees Will See Higher Salaries Starting in July?
DA Hike: Providing significant relief to state government employees in Assam, the government has announced a substantial hike in both Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). Consequently, their salaries will increase starting in July.
DA Hike News: While central government employees have long awaited updates on DA and DR under the 8th Pay Commission, the Assam government has brought welcome news for its state employees and pensioners. A 2% hike in both DA and DR has been announced for them.
Following a decision made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the DA has risen from 50% to 60%. This change will be effective from January 1, 2026. This was the first cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma following his electoral victory. This decision offers relief to lakhs of employees and pensioners by providing additional financial support amidst the current inflationary period.
How much will the salary increase?
For instance, if an employee's basic salary is ₹30,000, they previously received ₹17,400 as DA (calculated at 58%). With the new 60% DA rate, this amount will rise to ₹18,000—a direct gain of ₹600.
Similarly, if someone has a basic pay of ₹50,000, they previously received ₹29,000 as DA (at 58%); this will now increase to ₹30,000 (an increase of ₹1,000). This increased amount will be credited to your account along with the salary for June 2026.
Promotion for Grade 4 Employees
The government has also taken a major policy decision to encourage lower-level employees. Under this, approval has been granted for an amendment to the 'Assam Secondary Education (Provincialised Schools) Service Rules, 2026'. This will facilitate and streamline the process of promoting Grade 4 employees working in schools and government departments to Grade 3 posts.
