'Athiradi' box office collection day 9: Basil Joseph film slows amid 'Drishyam 3' wave; Worldwide total reaches Rs 56.94 Cr

The release of ' Drishyam 3 ' starring Mohanlal has changed the box office scenario in Kerala. Amid the massive hype surrounding the thriller, 'Athiradi' has witnessed a noticeable slowdown in collections during its second week.

Starring Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph in lead roles, the comedy entertainer still continues to hold decent occupancy levels.

'Athiradi' sees drop on day 9According to Sacnilk, 'Athiradi' collected Rs 89 lakhs net in India on Day 9. The film had earned Rs 1.08 crore net on Day 8. This marks a 17.6 percent drop in collections on its second Friday.


The number of shows also reduced sharply after the arrival of 'Drishyam 3'. The film ran across 861 shows on Day 9 compared to 1,024 shows on the previous day.

Despite the decline, the overall occupancy slightly improved to 27 percent. On Day 8, the film had recorded 26 percent occupancy.

The movie’s total India net collection now stands at Rs 29.04 crore. The India gross collection has reached Rs 33.69 crore so far.

Overseas numbers remain strongWhile the domestic collections slowed down, the overseas market continues to support the film strongly. 'Athiradi' has already grossed Rs 23.25 crore from international territories. With this, the film’s total worldwide gross collection has reached Rs 56.94 crore.

The Malayalam version recorded an overall occupancy of 23.57 percent on Day 9. Night occupancy touched 40.17 percent and evening shows registered 24 percent occupancy, while afternoon shows stood at 17.08 percent. Morning shows remained comparatively lower at 5.50 percent.

'Athiradi' revolves around engineering student Sam, who wants to revive his college’s legendary Arohan fest. At the same time, retired goon Kuttan dreams of rebuilding his life through music at a temple festival.


Apart from Tovino Thomas and Basil Joseph, the film also stars Vineeth Sreenivasan and Riya Shibu in important roles.
