Baggage Rules 2026: The Indian government has revised the baggage rules for international travelers. Under the new Baggage Rules, 2026, the duty-free allowance for personal belongings, especially gold and silver jewelry, has been increased. These rules came into effect on February 2, 2026. The government aims to simplify customs procedures, promote e-declarations, and provide faster clearance for passengers at airports and seaports. In addition, facilities for temporarily bringing in and re-exporting personal belongings, in addition to everyday necessities, have also been introduced.
How much exemption will be given on jewelry?
The exemption for jewelry will now be based on weight, not value.
Female passengers: Up to 40 grams of jewelry duty-free
Other passengers: Up to 20 grams of jewelry duty-free
(This exemption is for Indian-origin passengers and returning residents who have been living abroad for more than a year)
What is the duty-free limit for other goods?
