Under this new decision, the 60-day visa-free entry facility previously available to travelers from 93 countries—including India—has now been completely discontinued. This move by the Thai government is part of a broader strategy aimed at streamlining visa categories and tightening immigration controls. Let's take a look at the key visa-related details you now need to know before traveling to Thailand.

The Thai Cabinet approved this proposal on May 19, 2026. These new rules will come into force exactly 15 days after their publication in the Royal Gazette.

**How will this impact Indian travelers?**
The most significant impact of this new change will be felt by Indian tourists traveling to Thailand. In July 2024, India was included in Thailand's 60-day visa-free scheme, which allowed Indian citizens to stay in the country for up to two months without a visa; however, this is no longer the case.

Following these recent changes, India has now been reclassified under the "Visa on Arrival" category. This means that Indian passport holders will no longer be granted visa-free entry into Thailand.

Indian travelers will now be required to present the necessary documents at immigration checkpoints and obtain a visa upon arrival. Furthermore, under this category, you will now be permitted to stay in Thailand for a maximum of 15 days. This makes it perfect for short vacations; however, if you plan to spend an extended holiday in Thailand, you will need to make arrangements in advance.

**What happens to those who are already in Thailand?**

If you are currently in Thailand, or if you arrive in the country before the new rules come into effect, there is no need to worry. You will be permitted to stay for the duration of your approved stay period.

Which countries will be granted visa-free entry?
Following these changes, 54 countries will benefit from Thailand's 30-day visa-free entry scheme, including nations such as Australia, Japan, the USA, Switzerland, Malaysia, the UK, Canada, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and South Africa.
