Exploring Gulita: The Luxurious Mansion of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal
The wedding of Isha Ambani, daughter of Mukesh Ambani, India's wealthiest individual, to Anand Piramal on December 13, 2018, was a spectacle that captured global attention. Hosted at the Ambani residence, Antilia, the event featured a private performance by Beyoncé and an impressive guest list that included notable figures such as former US Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, Saudi Oil Minister Khalid Al-Falih, and prominent private equity investors like Stephen Schwarzman and Henry Kravis, along with numerous Bollywood stars. Following the extravagant celebrations, the spotlight shifted to the couple's new residence: Gulita.
Nestled in Worli and overlooking the Arabian Sea, Gulita spans an impressive 50,000 square feet, showcasing a blend of contemporary design and luxurious sophistication. Its diamond-inspired architecture is a standout feature. This magnificent property was a wedding gift from Anand's parents, Swati and Ajay Piramal, and was originally acquired from Hindustan Unilever in 2012 for approximately Rs 450 crore. Since then, its estimated value has surged to around Rs 818 crore.
The journey of Gulita began six years prior to the wedding, with reports indicating that Isha's in-laws purchased the property for about USD 61.2 million. This strategic investment has since evolved into one of India's most renowned private residences. Designed by the esteemed London-based firm Eckersley O'Callaghan, the mansion features a towering steel structure that reaches 11 meters, constructed using advanced 3D modeling techniques.
Gulita comprises five stories, featuring three glazed steel buildings that captivate visitors with their glass exteriors and lavish interiors. High ceilings, grand chandeliers, and a regal ambiance reminiscent of palaces define the space. Every architectural detail has been meticulously planned, ensuring both beauty and functionality.
Upon entering, the mansion's vastness becomes evident. Reports suggest it includes three basements, several dining areas, an outdoor swimming pool, and a grand hall with soaring ceilings. The ground floor features a welcoming lobby that leads to upper levels housing dining rooms and the master suite. A unique aspect of Gulita is its spiritual core, which includes a temple, a diamond room, underground parking, expansive dining spaces, and a large lawn. The diamond room, reflecting the overarching design theme, distinguishes Gulita from other residences in the country.
For Isha and Anand, Gulita symbolizes the union of two remarkable family legacies, beautifully expressed through glass, steel, and the timeless allure of diamonds.
