Ingredients

For basic banana jemput-jemput , you’ll need:

3 ripe bananas (mashed)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tbsp sugar (optional, depending on banana sweetness)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp baking powder (for extra fluffiness)
¼ cup water (adjust as needed)
Oil for frying

For a savory version, replace the bananas with:

½ cup anchovies or shrimp (chopped)
½ cup finely chopped onions
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp chili flakes (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, mash the bananas until smooth.

Add flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix well.

Gradually add water until the batter reaches a thick consistency. It should not be too runny.

For the savory version, mix the flour, salt, turmeric, and chili flakes first, then add chopped anchovies and onions. Add water gradually to form a thick batter.

2. Heat the Oil

In a deep pan or wok, heat enough oil for deep frying over medium heat.

Test the oil by dropping a small amount of batter—if it sizzles and rises, the oil is ready.

3. Fry the Jemput-Jemput

Using a spoon, scoop small portions of the batter and drop them into the hot oil.

Fry in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.

Cook until golden brown and crispy, about 3–5 minutes.

Remove and drain on paper towels.

4. Serve and Enjoy

Serve warm, either on their own or with a cup of tea or coffee.

For a sweet version, sprinkle with powdered sugar or drizzle with honey.

For a savory twist, pair with chili sauce or sambal.
