How to Book a Confirm Tatkal Ticket: Do you always end up disappointed when trying to book a Tatkal ticket? In such a case, it's possible that certain settings in your IRCTC account may not be enabled, preventing you from getting a confirmed Tatkal ticket. You can increase your chances of getting a confirmed Tatkal ticket by enabling or setting up features like the Master List, e-Wallet, and Auto Upgrade in your account.

To get Tatkal tickets, turn on the necessary settings.

Do you also assume while booking Tatkal tickets that the ticket will not be booked or that there are very less chances of the ticket getting booked? Actually, there are many such features available in IRCTC account, which if set, the chances of getting a confirmed Tatkal ticket increase by 90%.

In these settings, features like Master List feature, IRCTC Wallet or Preferred Coach ID can be set, so that before booking Tatkal tickets, there is no doubt whether the ticket will be booked or not.

Set up a master list

The master list feature allows you to pre-save the information of the passengers for whom you want to book tickets. This saves you the time required to enter passenger details during booking. To do this, you can:

  • Open the IRCTC app and go to the My Account section.
  • There click on the option of My Master List.
  • Now click on Add Passenger and enter the passenger's name, date of birth, gender and birth preference.
  • After filling the details, click on Submit.
  • Now, when booking Tatkal tickets, you just need to select the passenger. This will save you time and ensure you get a confirmed ticket.

    Recharge IRCTC e-Wallet

    When booking Tatkal tickets, you often lose a seat while waiting for the bank OTP. To avoid this, you can use IRCTC's e-wallet . This eliminates the need to wait for the OTP, and since the payment is made from IRCTC's own wallet, the money doesn't get stuck. To do this, you can:

  • Login to the IRCTC website or app and go to the IRCTC e-Wallet section.
  • Click on Register Now and link your PAN or other ID card.
  • After registration, top up your IRCTC wallet as per the estimated fare.
  • Now when you book your ticket, select IRCTC e-Wallet at the time of payment and increase your chances of getting a confirmed Tatkal ticket.
  • Get your preferred seat with your Preferred Coach ID

    If you prefer to receive tickets for a specific coach or carriage, you can use the Preferred Coach ID feature. This allows the system to quickly search for seats for you. To do this, you can
    :

  • After selecting the train and class, when you reach the passenger details page, scroll down.
  • There, tick the box of Preferred Coach ID on the option of Other Preferences.
  • Now enter the coach number of your choice like S1, S2 or A1, B1.
  • Select Auto Upgrade

    When booking Tatkal tickets, you often receive a waitlisted ticket even after the payment has been deducted. In such cases, if you enable auto-upgrade and book only if confirmed , you can avoid receiving a waitlisted ticket.

  • Go to the Other Preferences section on the Passenger Details page.
  • Here turn on the checkbox of Consider for Auto-Upgradation.
  • After this, select the option Book only if confirm berths are allotted given just below.
  • In such a situation, if the Tatkal quota is full, you will not be given a waiting ticket and your money will be safe.
