“The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer-free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care,” the statement continued, before adding, “More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they navigate this immeasurable loss.”

Sir Sam Neill revealed his diagnosis and treatment for stage three angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) in his 2023 memoir, ‘Did I Ever Tell You This?’ According to the Cleveland Clinic, the rare disease is an aggressive blood cancer that affects the T cells (a type of white blood cell). Moreover, it is a fast-growing blood cancer that can spread to the lungs, liver or bone marrow.
Earlier this year, the actor shared an encouraging update about being free from the disease, championing the CAR T-cell therapy. “I’ve just had a scan just now, and there is no cancer in my body; that’s an extraordinary thing,” he said in an interview with Australia's 7NEWS.
