Manasi Joshi Roy's Homemade Undhiyu Has Become the Lakshmi Niwas Cast's Favourite Ritual
Lakshmi Niwas has been striking a chord with audiences through its heartfelt portrayal of middle-class family life , relationships, and the warmth that binds people together. Interestingly, it seems the same warmth extends beyond the screen as well, especially when it comes to food and togetherness on set.
Seasoned actor Manasi Joshi Roy , who essays Lakshmi in the show, has unknowingly carried forward a sweet little tradition from one set to another. During her time on Maa Bhi Saas Bahu Thi, Manasi was known for bringing homemade undhiyu to the set, something the cast and crew would eagerly wait for. Years later, on the sets of Lakshmi Niwas, that same ritual continues, turning meal breaks into mini celebrations for the team.

Speaking about it, Manasi Joshi Roy shared, "Whether it’s at home or on set, I’ve always loved bringing food from home and sharing it with everyone around me. There’s something very special about sitting together, opening our dabbas, chatting over meals, and just enjoying those little moments in between hectic shoot schedules. It genuinely creates a sense of family on set, and I believe food has a beautiful way of bringing people together. Somewhere, when you bond like that off-screen, it naturally reflects on-screen too."
She added, "One thing I make sure to bring every winter is undhiyu. It’s a Gujarati speciality and a huge tradition in my family. The recipe comes from my grandmother and has been carried forward by my mother, and now it’s something I look forward to sharing with everyone on set as well. In fact, during my previous show too, we had formed a little group called ‘What’s In Your Dabba,’ where all of us would discuss what we were bringing for lunch and then sit together at one communal table to share our meals, laughter, and conversations. I think those are the moments that truly become memories.”
