New James Bond franchise star on the 'massive shock' of being cast as 007
As Amazon MGM Studios continue their auditions for the next official big screen James Bond, the latest incarnation of 007 sees his adventure released today. Patrick Gibson was cast as Bond in 007 First Light, the brand new critically-acclaimed official video game for PS5, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
The 31-year-old Irish actor, best known for playing Young Dexter, portrays a 26-year-old Bond in this reimagining involving his motion-captured performance. Developed by IOI Interactive over the past five years, Gibson admitted, "I was pretty stunned" to be cast as Bond.
In a new interview, Gibson shared: "It was a massive shock and an honour even to be auditioning for it. I was very excited. It was one of the most exciting phone calls I've ever had." Admitting it was "surreal" to see himself in a video game, he went on to share what was unique about his take on Ian Fleming's spy.
Gibson added, "This version of Bond that we meet is a kind of diamond in the rough. He possesses all the DNA that the later Bonds that we're familiar with have, but yet he's young, he's reckless. There's a lot of risk-taking and he learns a lot of hard lessons. I think there's an element of optimism of youth in there that slowly gets taken away from him."
007 First Light is out now and a Nintendo Switch 2 version will release later this year.
