Changes in Birth and Death Certificate Rules: Birth and death certificates are crucial documents for individuals. A birth certificate serves as a child's first form of identification, enabling access to schools, colleges, and government schemes. Similarly, obtaining a death certificate is essential after a person's passing, as it is a legal document used by family members for banking purposes and establishing ownership rights. Now, however, the rules regarding the registration of births and deaths have been modified. The 'Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026' was passed during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The Bill was passed first in the Lok Sabha and subsequently in the Rajya Sabha. This has resulted in amendments to the original Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969, thereby changing the regulations for obtaining both birth and death certificates.

Regarding these changes, the government states that its primary objective is to tighten regulations concerning delayed registrations and to prevent the creation of fake identification documents.
