Tokens to enable instant ticket booking; relief from long queues—Railways' new system comes into effect on August 1..

Newspoint

The start of every month brings new rules, and August 2026 is no exception. This time, Indian Railways is introducing significant changes to the rules for 'Tatkal' ticket booking. To alleviate the hassle of long queues and hours of waiting at reservation counters, the Railways has decided to implement a new token system.

The objective of this new system is to make ticket booking much easier than before. Passengers will no longer need to stand in line for hours; instead, they can collect a token at a designated time and proceed directly to the counter to book their tickets when their turn arrives. Additionally, new services—such as prioritizing those booking tickets for their families—are being introduced.
