Aadhaar Email Update 2026: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new digital facility that allows Aadhaar holders to add or update their registered email address directly through the official Aadhaar App. The service became available on July 1, 2026, and will remain free of charge for the first six months, eliminating the need for users to visit an Aadhaar enrolment or service centre for this particular update.

Aadhaar Email Update Can Now Be Done Online

According to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)

, Aadhaar users can now manage their registered email address entirely through the official Aadhaar App.

Whether a user wants to link an email address for the first time or replace an existing one, the update can now be completed remotely without visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra.

The government has announced that this facility will remain completely free for six months

, starting from July 1, 2026, encouraging more users to register an email address with their Aadhaar profile.

Available Only Through the Official Aadhaar App

Officials have clarified that the new feature is currently accessible only through the Aadhaar App.

Users who wish to use the service should download or update the latest version of the official application on their smartphone. The app is available for both Android

and iPhone (iOS) devices.

The ministry said the digital service has received a strong response soon after its launch. Within just two days, more than 250,000 Aadhaar holders had already updated or linked their email address using the Aadhaar App.

Email Registration Strengthens Aadhaar Security

One of the key benefits of linking an email address with Aadhaar is improved account monitoring.

Once an email address is registered, users will receive real-time email alerts whenever Aadhaar authentication takes place

. These notifications help individuals track the use of their Aadhaar credentials and quickly identify any activity they do not recognize.

The government believes this additional notification system will improve transparency while providing another layer of security for Aadhaar users.

Aadhaar App Offers More Digital Services

Millions Already Using the Aadhaar App

Government data shows that more than 40 million users have already updated their registered mobile number through the Aadhaar App.

Additionally, nearly one million people have successfully updated their address using the same digital platform.

These figures highlight the growing adoption of online Aadhaar services and the government's continued push to reduce the need for physical visits to Aadhaar service centres.

Government Encourages Users to Link Their Email

UIDAI has advised Aadhaar holders whose profiles do not currently include an email address to take advantage of the newly introduced feature.

Users who have changed their email address can also update the information through the Aadhaar App to ensure future notifications are delivered correctly.

The authority says that keeping contact details up to date will help users receive important Aadhaar-related alerts while improving overall account security.
