The government has directed all digital aggregator companies to complete the registration of their gig and platform workers on the e-Shram portal. According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, major companies such as Zomato, Blinkit, Swiggy, Uber, Ola, Rapido, Amazon, Zepto, Urban Company, and Porter have already joined the system. What is e-Shram?

It is a national database created by the government. The portal aims to consolidate information about the workforce in one place, enabling the government to easily extend the benefits of its schemes and facilities to them when needed. Upon registration, workers receive a unique ID number, allowing the government to deliver schemes and services to those in need more efficiently and effectively.

What does the government say?

The Ministry of Labour has stated that 15 aggregator companies have already joined the e-Shram portal. All other platforms have been ordered to complete this process by June 21. The Ministry has also instructed companies to integrate their systems with the e-Shram portal via API, facilitating the seamless and organized sharing of worker information.

The Ministry states that this step is being taken to ensure that the benefits of government schemes reach gig and platform workers. Under this law, delivery personnel, cab drivers, and similar workers will be included in government records, enabling them to access social security and other government benefits when needed. The ministry has also stated that action may be taken against companies that fail to comply with the prescribed regulations.

Next, enter your mobile number and verify it using the OTP. Then, update the new information related to your work and any necessary documents.
