Mumbai MDS Student Found Dead; Boyfriend Held After Suicide Note Emerges
A tragic case in Mumbai has sparked concern after a 24-year-old postgraduate dentistry student died by suicide at her home in the Antop Hill area. Police have arrested her boyfriend on charges of abetment to suicide following the discovery of a detailed suicide note that allegedly describes emotional distress caused by their relationship.
The victim, identified as Stuti Sonwane, was pursuing a Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) degree and lived with her parents and sister. According to investigators, she was found hanging in her room after family members broke open the door when she did not respond to repeated calls the next morning. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police recovered a six-page suicide note from the room, which has become a key piece of evidence in the investigation. In the note, the student reportedly alleged that her boyfriend, identified as Fuzail Mohammad Khan, repeatedly suspected her of cheating and made hurtful remarks about her character. Authorities say the relationship had turned toxic due to these constant accusations and emotional strain.
Investigators said the couple had met through a dating application and had been in a relationship for around a year. Over time, tensions reportedly grew between them, eventually leading to severe emotional distress for the student.
The suicide note also contained a chilling reference linked to the widely reported Shraddha Walkar murder case. According to police, the student wrote that some of her friends were aware of her troubled relationship and would jokingly tell her that she might “be found in a fridge one day,” a remark that reflected her growing fear and anxiety.
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family and the contents of the note, police registered a case of abetment to suicide under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused has been arrested and produced before a court, which remanded him to police custody as the investigation continues.
Authorities are now examining the suicide note and recording statements from family members and others connected to the case to determine the circumstances that led to the young student’s death.
