The incident reportedly occurred when two sisters noticed something unusual flashing in the distance while at the beach. Curious about the strange sight, they approached the area and discovered the ribbon-like fish in shallow waters. Oarfish are rarely seen near the surface, making the encounter especially remarkable.

One of the sisters, Monica Pittenger, later shared footage of the moment on Instagram in collaboration with the account “We Love Animals.” In the video, the fish appear to be moving weakly near the shore as people gather around to watch the unusual scene unfold. NDTV noted that it could not independently verify the viral clip.
