Karwa Chauth 2025: Story
A woman named Veeraavati was formerly married to a Brahmin, according to the scriptures. For her husband's longevity and well-being, she kept Karwa Chauth Vrat with her sister-in-law after she got married. Veeravati fainted due to hunger since she was unable to handle it throughout her fast. They chose to show her a fake moon so that she could eat something because all of her brothers were aware of the situation, could not see her sister in this state, and knew that she would not eat anything until the moon appeared in the sky. Using a candle and sieve, one brother climbs the banyan tree to show her the light's reflection, leading her to believe that this is the real moon. They all requested her to break her fast when she woke up from unconsciousness because the moon had come out, so they took her to the balcony and showed her the moon. She believed them and broke her fast, so when she sat down to eat, she found a hair in her first bite, sneezed in her second, and received an invitation from her in-laws in her third. These were all indications that her husband was dead, and she sobbed and felt guilty for breaking the fast after seeing his lifeless body. Then, Indra's wife, Goddess Indrani, arrived to comfort her. She inquired about her husband's death on this auspicious day, pleading with her to save his life, but she was unable to do so. She explained that her husband's death was caused by her breaking her fast without seeing him and offering Arghya to the moon. Then, Indrani told her that the only way to restore his life was to worship Chauth Mata and maintain the Chaturthi fast for the entire year. After a year, Chauth mata gave her wealth and happiness and restored her husband's life.
