AB de Villiers Confirms Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma Expecting Second Child
Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has officially confirmed that Indian cricket star Virat Kohli and his wife, actress Anushka Sharma , are expecting their second child. The announcement sheds light on Kohli 's absence from the first two Tests against England.
De Villiers, known for his camaraderie with Kohli during their time at Royal Challengers Bangalore , shared insights during a live session on his YouTube channel.
When questioned about Kohli's absence, De Villiers assured fans that Kohli is in good health and spending quality time with his family. "All I know is he is fine. He is spending a bit of time with his family, that is the reason he is missing the first two Test matches. I am not going to confirm anything else. I cannot wait to see him back. He is fine, he is doing well," affirmed De Villiers.
The former RCB star also revealed a recent text conversation with Kohli, stating, "So I wrote to him ‘Been wanting to check in with you for a while now biscuits. How are you?’. He said ‘Just need to be with my family right now. I am doing well.’" De Villiers further disclosed that Kohli's second child is on the way, emphasizing the cricketer's commitment to family.
"Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, it’s family time and things are important to him. If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that," added De Villiers.
Virat Kohli, who married Anushka Sharma in January 2017, welcomed their first child, Vamika , in January 2021. Kohli had previously taken paternity leave in 2021 for the birth of their first child. While Kohli was initially included in the squad for the first two Tests against England, he was later ruled out due to personal reasons.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ) has not provided clarity on whether he will return for the remaining three Tests. Kohli's last appearance for India was in the T20I series against Afghanistan, where he registered a duck in the final match.
