Alexander Zverev reaches first Wimbledon final, says 'I have to trust myself' ahead of title clash
Fresh off winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open, Alexander Zverev has booked a place in his first Wimbledon final after defeating British wildcard Arthur Fery 7-6 (7-0), 6-2, 6-4 on Friday.
The German admitted Wimbledon had always been his toughest Grand Slam but is now just one win away from lifting the trophy.
“This Grand Slam has always been the one that I struggled with the most and all of a sudden I’m in the final of Wimbledon,” the 29-year-old said. “We got one more match to go on Sunday and that’s what the focus is on.”
Zverev, who claimed his maiden major title at Roland Garros last month, will face either defending champion Jannik Sinner or seven-time Wimbledon winner Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final. He said he is confident despite the challenge ahead.
“It’s not going to be easy no matter who it is against,” Zverev said. “But I have to trust myself and I have to believe that I can win and that’s what I’m going to do.”
