Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph Included in West Indies Test Squad for Upcoming Series

Newspoint

Fast bowlers Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph are making a comeback to the West Indies squad for the upcoming two-Test home series against Sri Lanka. They’ll be joined by keeper-batsman Joshua Da Silva and Amir Jangoo, who are also returning to the fold.

Both Alzarri and Shamar had to sit out the West Indies' Test matches in India and New Zealand late last year due to injuries. The last time they played in this format was during Australia’s tour of the Caribbean back in 2025. Their return is a boost for a pace attack that already includes Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales.

Da Silva is back behind the stumps after a standout domestic season, where he scored an impressive 413 runs in just seven innings, making him the top run-scorer in the recent West Indies Championship.

His return means Tevin Imlach, who kept wicket in New Zealand last December but only managed 81 runs in six innings, will step aside. Imlach has been appointed captain of the West Indies Select XI for the four-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka in Coolidge from June 18 to 21.

Jangoo is also back in the Test setup after his sole appearance in Multan against Pakistan in January 2025. He had a fantastic domestic season, racking up 411 runs in seven innings, finishing just behind Da Silva on the Championship run charts.

This series is part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, where the West Indies currently sit in ninth place after facing seven defeats in their first eight matches. The first Test is set to take place in North Sound from June 25 to 29, with the second Test scheduled at the same venue from July 3 to 7.
