'Ban players, who refuse to play in Ranji Trophy': Rohit Sharma Remark Takes Indian Cricket By Storm

However, there has been a change in Iyer's stance, as he has decided to join Mumbai for the semi-final of the Ranji Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had been contemplating removing Iyer and Ishan from their central contracts to compel compliance, a move that appeared to have influenced Iyer's decision.
In the aftermath of the team’s victory over England in the fourth Test in Ranchi, Rohit Sharma was questioned about Test cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He emphasized, “We will only consider players who have hunger for Test cricket and not the ones ignoring the format. There is no place for players who don’t want to be a part of red-ball cricket.”
Rohit's remarks garnered support from various cricket associations.
Abhilash Khandekar , president of the Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association , stated, “I am with the Indian captain. Youngsters should be hungry to play longer format. You can’t take Ranji Trophy lightly as it is the backbone of the Indian cricket. The other domestic formats should also get the same importance.”
Former India player Dilip Vengsarkar expressed his belief that the BCCI's directives regarding Ranji Trophy participation could enhance players' performance.
He remarked, “Indian players play spin better by competing in Rani Trophy . If a player doesn’t want to play red-ball cricket, we have enough talent in India to replace him. No one is bigger than the game.”
Furthermore, a state unit official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stressed the importance of India's Test players participating in the Ranji Trophy to bolster the confidence of emerging cricketers. He advocated for the BCCI to empower state associations to impose bans on players who decline domestic cricket opportunities.
