Brandon King Enters Exclusive T20I Club, Surpasses Chris Gayle's Mark
King also entered the West Indies record books as he's now the 3rd batter in the country's history to score 2000 runs in T20I cricket. The mark came as West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to kick off the 3-match T20I series.
King reached the landmark during an onslaught, as he hammered Sri Lanka for 37 from only 22 deliveries to help West Indies' comfortably chase down their target to take a 1-0 series lead. The moment also came as King surpassed the mark previously set by former West Indies legend Chris Gayle.
King Joins Prestigious West Indies Club
It's a long list of fantastic batters who have played T20 international cricket, and Chris Gayle still sits on top of many of those. As the former West Indies opener, he hit for 1,899 runs in 79 T20Is including 2 tons and 14 half-tons. He was close but fell short of scoring 2000 international T20I runs and King's accomplished that feat by joining this elite West Indies club.
Windies Cricket posted a celebration of this feat to social media.

"A major milestone for BK!
Only the third West Indian to register 2000 runs in T20Is."
Two West Indies batters are currently ranked higher on the all-time T20I run charts. Nicholas Pooran is 1st with 2,275 runs across 106 matches and the now-retired Rovman Powell is 2nd with 2,271 runs across 118 matches. But King has plenty of time to pass them both and still has his years of international T20 cricket ahead of him.
