1. Hakan Şükür (Turkey) – 11 Seconds vs South Korea, 2002

At the top of the list is Turkish striker Hakan Şükür, who scored in a matter of just 11 seconds after kickoff against South Korea in the 2002 FIFA World Cup’s third-place playoff. A defensive mistake allowed Şükür to pounce on the chance instantly and score a screamer against South Korea.

The goal remains the fastest in FIFA World Cup history and is one of the most iconic quick strikes in football. Ironically, it was Şükür’s only goal of the entire tournament despite him being Turkey’s main striker. Turkey eventually won the match 3-2 to secure third place in that tournament.

2. Václav Mašek (Czechoslovakia) – 15 Seconds vs Mexico, 1962

Before Şükür shattered the record, Václav Mašek held the title for four decades. The Czech forward scored marvellously after just 15 seconds against Mexico during the 1962 World Cup in Chile.

Mašek’s lightning-fast strike showcased just how dangerous teams could be immediately from kickoff, even in earlier generations of football. Though the record stood for 40 years, it was eventually eclipsed in 2002.

3. Ernst Lehner (Germany) – 25 Seconds vs Austria, 1934

One of the oldest records on this list belongs to German winger Ernst Lehner, who scored after 25 seconds against Austria in the 1934 World Cup, which is a remarkable achievement considering how football was back then.

4. Bryan Robson (England) – 27 Seconds vs France, 1982

Bryan Robson produced one of England’s most memorable World Cup moments when he scored just 27 seconds into a match against France in the 1982 FIFA World Cup.

The midfielder’s early strike helped England start the tournament with massive momentum and remains one of the Three Lions’ greatest World Cup records.

5. Clint Dempsey (USA) – 29 Seconds vs Ghana, 2014

American star Clint Dempsey entered the history books at the 2014 FIFA World Cup by scoring after only 29 seconds against Ghana. He dribbled past defenders and landed a clinical shot straight into the net.
