Hairpin

A hairpin is one the slowest and the tightest corners in Formula 1 and usually requires drivers to brake heavily before turning through an almost 180-degree corner. Hairpins are common overtaking opportunities because drivers must slow down significantly before accelerating out of the corner. Good braking and traction are essential for maintaining speed through a hairpin.

Halo

The Halo is a protective titanium structure fitted above the driver’s cockpit and was introduced to improve driver safety by protecting the head from large debris or impacts during crashes. Although the Halo was initially debated, it has become one of the most important safety innovations in Formula 1 as it is designed to withstand extremely high forces while maintaining visibility for the driver.

Handling

Handling refers to how a Formula 1 car responds to steering, braking, and acceleration. A car with good handling is predictable, stable, and easier for the driver to control. Engineers work throughout a race weekend to improve handling by adjusting the car’s setup. Driver feedback during practice sessions plays a major role in fine-tuning handling characteristics.

HANS Device

The HANS stands for Head and Neck Support Device and is worn by the drivers underneath their helmets and attached using safety tethers. The device helps reduce movement of the head and neck during a heavy impact forming an essential part of Formula 1’s comprehensive driver safety equipment.
