Gautam Gambhir's Secret Meeting With Shah Rukh Khan At Mannat Surprises LSG Owner: Report
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir continues to captivate attention, particularly due to his significant role in the Kolkata Knight Riders ' (KKR) success in the 2024 Indian Premier League ( IPL ). Gambhir, who joined KKR this year after two seasons with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), made headlines with his strategic move.
Reports suggest that Gambhir's decision to switch from Lucknow to Kolkata was not a spontaneous one. It is alleged that Gambhir and KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan had frequent meetings at Khan's residence between 2018 and 2022.
Dainik Jagaran reported that Gambhir decided to leave the Lucknow franchise in 2023 after receiving a lucrative offer from Shah Rukh Khan, who proposed a long-term commitment to KKR for the next decade.
Despite having had successful stints with LSG, Gambhir seriously considered Shah Rukh’s offer. The Bollywood superstar reportedly invited Gambhir to his home, ' Mannat ,' for a two-hour discussion to seal the deal.
Gambhir, who had previously led KKR to IPL titles in 2012 and 2014, accepted the challenge and joined the team, much to the surprise of LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka , who was taken aback by the sudden turn of events.
Future Prospects for Gautam Gambhir:
After only a year with KKR, Gambhir faces a critical decision, as he is reportedly a top candidate for the India head coach position, potentially succeeding Rahul Dravid. Despite having committed to a decade-long association with KKR, Gambhir must now weigh his options carefully.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has limited choices if Gambhir declines. Reports indicate that no notable Australian coaches have applied, and VVS Laxman has shown no interest in the role.
The BCCI's challenge remains whether they can persuade Gambhir to accept the prestigious coaching position.
