How One Crucial Moment Ended Delhi Capitals' IPL 2026 Playoff Dream
Delhi Capitals managed to earn 14 points in 14 matches after a nearly disastrous season. However, their team narrowly missed on qualifying for the playoff stages of the league. Rajasthan Royals took the final qualification spot for the playoffs with 16 points, and it was just one win that had separated Delhi Capitals from the playoff stages.
With the league stage of the competition concluding, an incident from one of the matches against Gujarat Titans re-emerged. Just one instance in the entire match may have cost Delhi Capitals their season.
DC ended up losing that game against Gujarat Titans by the narrowest of margins, that being one run. Looking back, a single run in the final over of the match could have completely changed the playoff equation.
The Denied Single That Changed DC’s Season
Chasing a target of 211 against Gujarat Titans, DC needed 2 runs off the last two balls, with David Miller facing while Kuldeep Yadav stood at the other end.
With the ball sliding towards deep square leg, Prasidh Krishna bowled the 5th ball of the final over to the latter and there was just enough time for Miller to take a single which would have levelled the scores and the match would have proceeded to the last ball with equal scores on both ends. However, David Miller
That one decision went on to become the deciding moment.
Had they completed the single, the scores on the board would have been leveled and they still would have had one ball in hand to win the match or even play a Super Over to decide the outcome. Delhi Capitals still required two runs off the final delivery.
With a slower short ball from Prasidh Krishna, the batsmen failed to steal a single and the latter secured victory for Gujarat Titans by one run.
That loss looked agonious then and at the time when the leagues came to an end it turned out to be even more painful.

DC Fall Short in Playoff Race
With seven wins and seven losses, Delhi Capitals faltered just shy of the playoff line in the IPL 2026 season. One more win and they would have finished at 16 points and level with Rajasthan Royals in the playoff equation.
This is precisely why the one-run defeat against Gujarat Titans is now being viewed as one of the highlights (and lowlights) of their campaign.
Starting off brightly with back-to-back victories, inconsistency severely affected their campaign. Losses followed in quick succession and they only got back into the win column with a single victory to their name, only to repeat the cycle of losses and then finally, the late fight.
There was a patch, after a few middle games of the tournament, where their hopes seemed all but extinguished; however, a flurry of victories in their last three matches turned things around momentarily, a dramatic surge. Despite the impressive fightback they could not completely salvage the damage done by those defeats and near-losses early on.
And one of these losses - the defeat by a single run against Gujarat Titans - stands out, because, quite literally, a single run has decided their fate.
In the highly competitive format of the IPL and over 14 league games, one denied run may have just determined whether they feature in the business end of the competition or go home earlier.
